Comparing Lesson Plan

Topic: Comparing

Grade 4, Learning Support

Subject: Math

Materials: computer, projector

Objective: The students will compare two numbers.

Procedures: 1.) Start the lesson by talking about alligators and how they like like to eat a lot. Tell them that we'll be using alligators to find out which number the alligator would like to eat. The alligator would want to eat the bigger number since they like to eat a lot. 2.) State the objective. 3.) Using the projector, display an activity from the website internet4classrooms. http://www.beaconlearningcenter.com/WebLessons/AlligatorLunch/default.htm#page1
The activity starts off with talking about allie the alligator. Allie always eats the bigger fish. It also goes into using the words greater than and less than. We would do the examples together on the projector. 4.) When we finish, I would have the students complete a worksheet on comparing numbers. I would have them draw alligator mouths. Underneath each mouth, they would need to write greater than or less than.

Assessment: Worksheet on comparing. 2 points each (1-correct sign, 1-correct words)

Gadgets

I mainly chose blogs/gadgets that were on news in the education world. I also chose a blog on special education law. Being a special education teacher, the laws are constantly changing. I need to be kept up to date on everything that's changing. I thought it was important to have blogs/gadgets that were informing me on everything and anything happening with education.

Money Lesson Plan

Topic: Money- Making change

Grade 4, Learning Support

Subject: Math

Materials: computer, projector, play money, toy cash register ( if available), calculator, objects with prices

Objective: The students will make change.

Procedures: 1.) Gain attention by telling the students they will be playing store and will play with money. 2.) State the objective. 3.) Using a website from nettrekker, display an activity on making change using the projector. http://www.mathplayground.com/making_change.html The activity gives a scenario that you have a summer job at a local store and will have to make change. The activity gives several dollar amounts of the item price and the amount paid. I would have each student use a calculator to come up with the change. When everyone has the correct answer, I will type in the change. Then we have to drag down dollar bills and coins to show the change on the counter. I would let each student come up and drag the money to show the change. 4.) After they feel comfortable with this, I would let them play store. 5.) Have the students take turns being the cashier. I use a toy cash register to make it as real as possible. The other students in the class will pick out the items marked with a price and use play money to pay. The cashier can use a calculator to figure out the change and then they have to give the other students their change. 6.) Students could do the activity from nettrekker during centers or freetime to reinforce making change.

Assessment: Teacher observation of students being the cashier and making the correct change.

Verbs Lesson Plan

Topic: Verbs

Grade 4, Learning Support

Subject: Language Arts

Materials: computer, projector, overhead projector

Objective: The students will identify verbs.

Procedures: 1.) Gain attention by telling the students they're going to learn about verbs by watching a school house rock video. 2.) State the objective. 3.) Show students the video "School House Rock Verbs" on teacher tube. http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=da92bd4e1f870eaaa6ad&page=1&viewtype=&category= 4.) After viewing the video, tell the students that they will watch it again and they will be writing down as many examples as they can of verbs. 5.) Watch the video again and have students write down verbs from the video. 6.) When finished, have students share the verbs they learned about and write them down on the overhead projector. 7.) Discuss the importance of verbs in sentences. 8.) Have the students write five sentences using the verbs they learned about in the video and underline the verb. 9.) To wrap up the lesson take pictures of the students displaying various verbs (ex. smile, read, write, jump). Display the pictures on a bulletin board. 10.) Have each student write one sentence using the verb they did in the their picture and post under the picture.

Assessment: Student's work- sentences , 3 points per sentence (1-capital, 1-punctuation, 1-verb correctly used)
